BADIAN, Cebu — A 17-year-old boy was found dead after allegedly hanging himself from a tree branch in Purok 3, Barangay Malhiao, Badian, Cebu. Police identified the victim only by the alias “Kyle,” a Grade 11 student of Badian National High School and a resident of the area.

According to the Badian Municipal Police Station, the lifeless body was discovered by a local resident who was tending to his cow. Investigators later learned from the victim’s mother that

Kyle had been noticeably depressed in recent days after reportedly being left by his girlfriend. She said he had also lost interest in attending school following the breakup.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) logged nearly 2,000 suicide cases in the first half of 2025, with officials raising alarms about bullying and mental health struggles among victims.

The Department of Education also reported hundreds of completed suicides and thousands of attempts among public school students in recent years, underscoring the seriousness of youth mental health concerns.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, police have reminded the public not to hesitate in seeking help when experiencing severe problems or depression.

They encouraged individuals to reach out to psychologists, counselors, priests, pastors, or the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) Crisis Hotline.

The NCMH Crisis Hotline is open through 1553 (landline) and 0917-899-8727 (USAP) for immediate advice and assistance.

This tragic case highlights the urgent need for stronger mental health awareness and support systems for Filipino youth, especially those navigating emotional struggles.
