MANILA, Philippines — In celebration of Women’s Month 2026, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is offering women free copies of their birth or marriage certificates throughout March. The initiative, announced on March 5 via the PSA’s official Facebook page, aims to provide easier access to vital documents, which are often necessary for employment, education, healthcare, and other government transactions.

Women can avail themselves of this offer every Monday of March at select Civil Registry System outlets in Metro Manila. Beneficiaries are required to present a valid ID upon claiming their certificates. PSA reminded the public that “free issuances are limited and subject to the discretion of CRS outlets,” emphasizing the importance of planning ahead to ensure availability.

In addition, the PSA announced a Civil Registration and National ID caravan scheduled for March 27 at Brgy. Kaybanban, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. Women participating in the caravan can benefit from free National ID registration, validation, and other related services.

While this initiative highlights efforts to promote gender equity and reduce barriers to accessing government services, it also underscores a broader issue: for many women, even essential civil documents remain difficult to obtain due to cost, travel, or bureaucratic hurdles. Programs like this, although temporary, can ease these challenges—but they also raise questions about systemic access to civil services. As Women’s Month celebrations bring these services closer to the public, the bigger question remains: Why should access to such fundamental documents ever be difficult, and how can government services become consistently equitable for every woman?
