Margret Dianne FerminIpinost noong 2026-03-16 20:41:46 Pulse Asia: Marcos approval at 36%, Sara Duterte at 55%

A new Pulse Asia survey released on March 16, 2026, shows that only 36 percent of Filipinos approve of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s performance in the past three months, while Vice President Sara Duterte enjoys a stronger 55 percent approval rating. The results highlight a decline in public support for Marcos compared to Duterte, who continues to maintain majority backing.

The nationwide survey, conducted from February 27 to March 2, 2026, polled 1,200 adults across the Philippines. According to Pulse Asia, 36 percent of respondents approved of Marcos’ work, while 27 percent expressed disapproval and 18 percent were undecided. This marks a challenging quarter for the President, who has faced criticism over rising fuel prices, inflationary pressures, and governance issues.

In contrast, Vice President Sara Duterte received 55 percent approval, with only 27 percent disapproving of her performance. Analysts note that Duterte’s stronger ratings reflect her continued popularity in Mindanao and among lower-income groups, where she has maintained a solid political base.

The survey also measured trust levels, showing that 35 percent of Filipinos trust Marcos, while 54 percent trust Duterte. This gap underscores the Vice President’s comparative advantage in public perception, even as both leaders navigate political challenges.

Regionally, Marcos’ approval was weakest in Metro Manila and Luzon, where economic concerns are most pronounced. Duterte, meanwhile, retained majority approval in Mindanao and parts of the Visayas, reflecting her strong grassroots support.

Political observers suggest that the survey results could influence the administration’s priorities in the coming months, particularly as Marcos faces mounting pressure to address economic instability and strengthen public confidence. Duterte’s higher ratings may also bolster her influence within the administration and among coalition allies.

The Pulse Asia “Ulat ng Bayan” survey provides a snapshot of public sentiment at a time when Filipinos are grappling with rising costs of living and uncertainty in global markets. With only a little over one-third of Filipinos approving of Marcos’ performance, the findings highlight the urgent need for decisive policy measures to regain public trust.
