MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has assured the public that the government will continue to support sectors most affected by the rising cost of petroleum products, which has been linked to escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In a video statement, the Philippine leader emphasized that the government is implementing measures to reduce the burden of higher fuel prices on everyday life for Filipinos.

“Walang iwanan, walang maiiwan sa pagharap natin sa hamong ito. Asahan ninyo ang patuloy naming paggawa ng mga hakbang upang maibsan ang mabigat na epekto ng kaganapan sa Gitnang Silangan sa taumbayan,” the president said.

According to Marcos, the administration is rolling out assistance programs targeting sectors directly affected by fuel price increases. These include cash relief for tricycle drivers, jeepney drivers, and transport network vehicle service (TNVS) drivers, as well as fuel subsidies for farmers and fisherfolk.

Officials say the assistance aims to help workers cope with rising transportation and operational costs while stabilizing livelihoods in industries that depend heavily on fuel.

The government’s response comes as global oil prices remain volatile due to geopolitical developments in the Middle East, which influence the supply and pricing of petroleum products worldwide.

Economic analysts note that spikes in oil prices can quickly ripple through the economy, affecting transportation fares, food production, and the cost of essential goods.

With the government rolling out support measures, the challenge now lies in ensuring that aid reaches those who need it most.

As fuel prices continue to fluctuate globally, many are asking: Will these subsidies and financial assistance programs be enough to shield Filipino households from the long-term impact of rising oil prices?
