PNP considers raising women recruitment quota for 2026 police intake

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has signaled openness to raising its recruitment quota for women, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen gender balance and inclusivity in the force. Officials said the move is being considered alongside the 2026 recruitment program, which already includes thousands of slots for patrolmen and patrolwomen nationwide.

The PNP Recruitment and Selection Service (PNP RSS) recently announced that applications for the 2026 Regular and Attrition Recruitment Program are now open, with a base monthly salary of ₱31,151 for new patrol officers. The quota allocation has been distributed across regional offices, with both men and women eligible to apply.

Currently, the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) authorizes the PNP to recruit thousands of new officers annually, with quotas set per region. In 2025, for example, NAPOLCOM approved 6,589 slots for patrolmen and patrolwomen under the attrition quota.

PNP officials have acknowledged that while female officers are already part of the recruitment program, there is growing recognition of the need to expand their numbers. This comes amid calls from lawmakers and advocacy groups to ensure that women are better represented in law enforcement, particularly in handling sensitive cases such as violence against women and children (VAWC).

The push for more female recruits also aligns with broader reforms aimed at improving gender sensitivity within the police force. Policymakers argue that increasing the number of women in uniform could enhance community relations and provide victims of abuse with more approachable officers.

At present, the PNP has not released specific figures on how much the women’s quota will be raised, but officials confirmed that discussions are ongoing. The final allocation is expected to be announced once consultations with NAPOLCOM and other stakeholders are completed.

For aspiring applicants, the PNP has advised submitting application folders to their respective Regional Recruitment and Selection Units (RSSUs). Requirements include proof of qualifications, medical clearances, and other standard documents. The recruitment process is designed to ensure transparency and equal opportunity for both male and female candidates.

The potential increase in women’s recruitment quota reflects a broader shift in the PNP’s approach to inclusivity and modernization. If implemented, it could mark a significant step toward building a more gender-balanced police force capable of addressing diverse community needs.

In the coming months, the PNP is expected to release updated guidelines and quotas, which will clarify how many additional slots will be reserved for female applicants in the 2026 cycle. For now, the announcement signals a strong commitment to gender equality in Philippine law enforcement.
