DECEMBER 25, 2025 — Commuters along Edsa will need to adjust travel plans as the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced the temporary closure of the Kamuning Southbound Busway Station from December 27, 1 a.m. until December 28, 4 a.m. The shutdown is necessary to install steel components for the new Kamuning Footbridge.
During the closure, buses will bypass the Kamuning stop, with passengers directed to use Quezon Avenue or Nepa Q-Mart stations instead. The DOTr emphasized that the move is intended to guarantee safety while crews complete lighting and structural works.
The project, valued at more than P89.1 million under the 2024 General Appropriations Act for the Edsa Busway Project, includes rehabilitation of the busway station itself.
The new footbridge is designed to replace the notorious “Mount Kamuning,” a steep and narrow overpass long criticized for being inaccessible to many, especially persons with disabilities.
Former Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon earlier noted that the footbridge is targeted for completion within December. The DOTr assured the public that the new structure will be “safer” and “wider,” offering a commuter-friendly design that addresses years of complaints about the old overpass.
The closure may cause short-term inconvenience, but the long-term benefits are clear. A modern, accessible footbridge signals progress in making public transport safer and more inclusive. Indeed, the government’s effort deserves recognition for prioritizing commuter welfare and investing in infrastructure that directly impacts everyday lives.
