Manila, Philippines — Authorities have issued a stern reminder that sharing sexually explicit photos and videos online is strictly prohibited under Philippine law, warning that violators face serious criminal charges.

The Department of Justice and the National Bureau of Investigation reiterated that the circulation of obscene materials, including sex videos, constitutes a violation of Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code and the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

These laws penalize the production, distribution, and possession of lewd content, especially when shared through social media platforms.

Officials emphasized that even forwarding or reposting such content can lead to prosecution. “Mahigpit na ipinagbabawal ng batas ang pagpapakalat ng mga maseselang larawan at videos,” the DOJ stressed in its advisory, noting that offenders may face imprisonment and hefty fines.

The warning comes amid a rise in cases involving the unauthorized sharing of intimate videos, often referred to as “revenge porn.” Authorities reminded the public that victims of such acts suffer not only reputational damage but also emotional and psychological harm.

The government urged netizens to exercise responsibility online and report any accounts or individuals involved in spreading explicit materials. Law enforcement agencies continue to monitor digital platforms to ensure compliance and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.

This latest advisory underscores the importance of digital ethics and accountability, reminding Filipinos that compassion and respect must guide online behavior, and that the law will not tolerate the misuse of social media for indecent content.
