MANILA, Philippines — Passengers of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) have been advised of a temporary suspension of train operations as part of the system’s annual maintenance activities.
According to the MRT-3 management, operations will be temporarily halted from April 2 to April 5, 2026, coinciding with the observance of Holy Week in the Philippines. The announcement was made on Thursday evening, March 12, 2026.
The scheduled maintenance is conducted every year during Holy Week when commuter traffic is typically lower, allowing engineers and technical teams to carry out inspections, repairs, and upgrades that may not be possible during normal operating days.
Officials explained that the maintenance work is necessary to ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the rail system once regular services resume. The MRT-3 is one of the busiest urban rail lines in Metro Manila, serving thousands of commuters daily along the EDSA corridor.
Operations are expected to resume on April 6, 2026, once the maintenance activities are completed.
In previous years, similar shutdowns have allowed railway engineers to perform track inspections, signaling system checks, and other infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving the overall performance of the train line.
Commuters who regularly rely on the MRT-3 are advised to plan their trips in advance and consider alternative transportation options during the four-day suspension period.
While routine maintenance is essential for maintaining public transport safety, the temporary closure once again highlights the challenges faced by commuters when major transport lines pause operations.
As Metro Manila continues to rely heavily on its rail systems, should there be more alternative transport solutions available whenever major lines temporarily shut down for maintenance? (Larawan mula sa: DOTr MRT-3 / Facebook)
