MANILA, Philippines — Financial relief efforts for transport network vehicle service (TNVS) drivers are set to resume this Tuesday, March 24, offering much-needed support as fuel prices continue to strain livelihoods.

The distribution will take place at Kartilya ng Katipunan from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM, where qualified drivers will receive ₱5,000 each under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The initiative is being conducted in coordination with the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, ensuring an organized and targeted payout for affected drivers.

Beneficiaries include TNVS drivers affiliated with various platforms such as Grab, Joyride, Maxim, inDrive, and other accredited services.

Drivers are reminded to bring both original and photocopies of their professional driver’s license and to follow their assigned schedules to avoid overcrowding and delays. Authorities also advised beneficiaries to refrain from bringing their vehicles to the venue. Instead, they may utilize nearby parking areas such as Park ‘N Ride Lawton to help ease traffic congestion.

It is important to note that motorcycle taxi and delivery riders are not included in this payout.

The continuation of this cash assistance highlights the government’s response to the mounting pressure on transport workers amid fluctuating fuel prices. However, it also raises broader questions about sustainability—whether short-term financial aid can keep pace with long-term economic challenges.

As fuel prices continue to rise, are one-time cash assistance programs enough to support transport workers—or is a more systemic solution needed?
