MANILA, Philippines — Manila City is ramping up its support for transport workers as fuel prices continue to climb, with Mayor Isko Moreno reaffirming a strong commitment to inclusive assistance.
In a recent directive during the city’s 34th Directional Meeting, Moreno emphasized close coordination between the local government and national agencies to ensure the smooth and efficient distribution of cash aid for affected transport groups. The payout will take place at Kartilya ng Katipunan, a central location chosen for accessibility and organization.
According to data from the Manila Department of Social Welfare, a total of 2,629 qualified TNVS drivers are set to receive ₱5,000 each. The initiative is part of the broader Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program led by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, with operational support from the Department of Transportation.
To ensure order and convenience, multiple city departments—including the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau, Department of Engineering and Public Works, and Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department—have been mobilized.
Moreno’s message was clear: “Nobody will be left behind. In a crisis, no one should be excluded—everyone is affected.”
The effort reflects a broader push by local and national leaders to cushion the economic impact of global oil volatility, particularly for sectors directly hit by rising fuel costs. While such assistance provides immediate relief, it also underscores the ongoing challenge of sustaining support systems in the face of prolonged global instability.
As governments step in with emergency aid, how can they ensure that “no one is left behind” not just today—but in the long run?
