MANILA — Iimbitahan ng Senate Blue Ribbon Committee sina dating Ako Bicol party-list Representative Zaldy Co at dating House Speaker Martin Romualdez sa susunod na pagdinig kaugnay ng umano’y anomalya sa mga flood control projects ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Kinumpirma ni Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, na siya ring chairman ng komite, na ipapadala ang imbitasyon kay Romualdez sa pamamagitan ng kasalukuyang House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III bilang paggalang sa inter-parliamentary courtesy. “In observation of the time-honored inter-parliamentary courtesy between the two houses of Congress,” ani Lacson.

Samantala, si Co ay padadalhan ng imbitasyon sa kanyang address sa kabila ng ulat na siya ay nasa abroad. “Now we know he is abroad and will not show up. If that is the case, we will issue a subpoena, and then a show-cause order,” ayon kay Lacson sa panayam sa NET25. Dagdag pa niya, “If the show-cause order is not satisfactory, we will cite him in contempt of the committee and issue a warrant for his arrest.”

Nagbitiw si Co bilang kongresista noong Setyembre 29, kasunod ng mga alegasyon ng korapsyon sa flood control projects at mga insertion sa pambansang budget. Ayon sa Independent Commission for Infrastructure, inirekomenda na sa Office of the Ombudsman ang posibleng pagsasampa ng kaso laban kay Co at ilang opisyal ng DPWH sa Oriental Mindoro, kabilang ang graft, malversation, at falsification.

Si Romualdez, pinsan ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., ay dati ring nasangkot sa mga alegasyon ng pagtanggap ng kickbacks mula sa mga kontratista. Mariin niyang itinanggi ang mga paratang at tinawag itong “falsehoods”.

Ayon kay Senador Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, hindi sapat ang pagbibitiw ni Co. “What will be enough is thorough investigation. If it warrants prosecution, [then] prosecution. And if it warrants conviction, [then] conviction. That's what the people are looking for,” aniya.

Patuloy ang pagdinig ng Senado sa kontrobersiyang ito, kung saan layunin ng Blue Ribbon Committee na patunayan na wala silang pinoprotektahan. “We will go where the evidence leads us,” giit ni Lacson.
