MANILA — Nangako si Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon na paiimbestigahan ang ulat na may miyembro ng kanyang team na nakipagpulong sa mga contractor na umano’y konektado sa mga iregularidad sa flood control projects.

“Because of this report, I will also investigate on my own. I would really appreciate specifics from Congressman Leviste. If proven true, I will immediately remove that person and press charges,” pahayag ni Dizon sa isang press conference nitong Huwebes.

Ang pahayag ay tugon sa alegasyon ni Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste, na nagsabing may mga opisyal ng DPWH na nakipag-ugnayan sa mga contractor sa labas ng ahensiya. “Someone just told me before I arrived here now that not only did one person tell me that they heard that members of the team are actually contractors, but that other members of the team had already been meeting with contractors outside of DPWH and they are asking for something,” ani Leviste sa isang press briefing sa Batasang Pambansa.

Nanawagan si Leviste ng transparency mula sa kalihim. “Maybe Secretary Dizon can also check with all of his appointees who are the contractors, if any, that they’ve met since their appointment, and what they discussed during those meetings,” dagdag niya.

Bagama’t nilinaw ng kongresista na hindi siya direktang nag-aakusa ng katiwalian, iginiit niyang mahalagang malaman kung may conflict of interest sa hanay ng mga bagong opisyal ng DPWH. “I’m asking Secretary Vince Dizon to disclose any and all of his team’s connections with current, past, or potential future contractors of DPWH projects,” aniya.

Sa panig ni Dizon, sinabi niyang wala siyang kaalaman sa anumang koneksyon ng kanyang mga undersecretary sa mga contractor. “As far as I know, the undersecretaries we invited—and given how rare it is these days to get people to work as undersecretaries in the DPWH—none of them have contractors,” paliwanag niya.

Ang isyu ay bahagi ng mas malawak na imbestigasyon ng Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) sa mahigit 400 ghost flood control projects na nadiskubre sa Luzon at iba pang rehiyon. Patuloy ang pagbusisi ng Commission on Audit (COA) at Office of the Ombudsman sa mga kontrata at koneksyon ng mga contractor sa mga dating opisyal ng gobyerno.
